A bit about Technohol 13

January 2nd, 2016

I love these wee dices. Maybe some day I can use them in an actual game.

As I mentioned previously, both yesterday and on a couple other occasions in the past, this site isn't the only one I work on when I've got the dreadful urge to be vaguely creative bouncing around in my head meat. Though admittedly, claiming that I work on this site is something of a misnomer, since I've had it going on for over a decade, in various forms, and haven't really written all that much here.

But I digress.

My other site, which happens to be my original, is Technohol 13. I generally produce a bunch of obscure content about obscure material for an obscure super hero role playing game there, in between efforts to build my own, original content, fiction, and game systems. This is one of those things that started small and spiraled way, way, way out of control.

Originally, Technohol 13 was just meant to warehouse stuff I'd written over the years for the now-defunct Marvel Super Heroes Role Playing Game (MSH RPG) mailing list, which died a slow death after the company that hosted it sold itself to another company, and so on and so forth, until it was owned by an unrepentant e mail spam operation, if memory serves. So yeah, good thing I archived all that crap.

Well, my own, at least. Most of the stuff on there was just three hundred different iterations of the same three hundred characters you could already get information about if, you know, you just bought the game books in the first place. Or downloaded them, since that was also an option actually sanctioned by the company that no longer published the things. They even linked to sites that were offering the material!

Strangely enough, I never managed to complete my effort to add all the stuff I'd written for that mailing list onto my own site, since it quickly evolved into a monstrosity all its own. Back when I had no life and fewer prospects, in the halcyon days of the previous millennium, I was starting up one project after another on the 13. And things proceeded quite apace!

I was fleshing out several obscure corners of superherodom (that's actually a word!), avoiding the scourge of having those same three hundred characters mentioned above anywhere near my corner of the internet, and over time I do believe I have forged possibly the single largest repository of nerdy gaming material written by one human being in one place that will ever exist. I could be wrong on this point, but don't think so.

Though circumstances in life have sort of put the kibosh on my regular work on the site these last few months (after doing an update-a-day for over six (count 'em) years!), I'm still making a slow amount of progress on my efforts to finalize a lot of the stuff I'd started for the 13 a long, long time ago. I've even overhauled and proofread everything I posted back before I learned how to, uh, spell check and things.

My point, in other words, is that if you get bored, you can do worse than checking out some of my nerdery on the 13. A lot of what I cover involves characters you probably haven't even heard of, unless you're a nerd traveling in the same nerd circles that I do, at any rate. So, at the very least, you might find a smidgen of entertainment reading my gaming coverage of the old, the weird, and the fun!
