Some eats near town.

Are you ready... To obey... The Cow... God?! /green jelly

Brenda's mom flew up from Orlando to visit us over the weekend, for reasons, and since she is our guest, she got to choose where we were going out to dinner. We would've eaten at home, of course, but that would've been too darn easy. I mean, it wasn't like we had an entire kitchen brimming with good food to work with or anything, no. So yeah, she had to pick a place.

Not remotely knowing the area, we offered a few suggestions, and ultimately wound up eating at the Clifton Mill. This restaurant, situated in the wee town of Clifton, was just within a few miles of us in Yellow Springs, and was ostenstibly a novel location to eat. So, despite their proclamation of serving 'casual American' food, we went ahead and went there for dinner.

I had me a ludicrous burger, which was okay in that it's hard to really screw up a burger for me, but the half-toasted slices of bread serving as a bun stuck to my teeth in a gummy fashion. The others had some sort of open-faced roast beef concoction, but I guess they weren't too thrilled with theirs. I wouldn't know, since I didn't have any, but it looked just like what was advertised.

You know, a crapton of starch.

We didn't stick around for dessert, for some reason or another, and wound up drifting back towards Young's Jersey Dairy, which says it's in Yellow Springs but is just outside the city limits, so I don't know how that actually works in practice. But it's that or just say it's in Ohio, so that's something? But yeah, we went there for dessert... and so did the rest of Ohio.

The place is wildly popular on weekends, even more so when the weather is so darn pleasant. So we wound up waiting fifteen minutes to actually order our desserts, but we were kind of expecting that. The hope was that we would have also got some of the joint's legendary fried cheese curds for Brenda's mom, but the line for those was a bit too long. We could've got some, but it would've taken another half hour.

Sigh. On the plus side, the ice cream treats we got were very good. They make their dairy using milk milked on the premises, thus the ice cream is amazingly tasty. So the dining this weekend was overall okay - one good experience, one bad. So if you like 'casual American' food, I guess try out the Mill given the opportunity, and if you like the best ice cream in the state, head to Young's.
