So we went hiking at the Glen Helen nature preserve today.

May 29th, 2016

Brenda and I were talking about how lovely Yellow Springs gets as summer approaches, and how much living here is like having residence in a park. As an offhand remark, I mentioned that perhaps we should go hiking in the Glen Helen nature preserve, and take a look at the joint as the place really comes to life. So this is precisely what we did this morning!

Naturally, the best time to head to the Glen is as early as you can manage it. This is because by about noon, the place is overrun with out of towners, screaming kids, and peoples' many and various animals. Not at all being a 'day person', this meant that I had to pull myself together and get going well before I would have liked, but I can't say no to Brenda. And I didn't!

Thus, Brenda and I rode our bikes from the house down to the Glen, and then began our hike. Climbing down into the joint was relatively easy for me, though the rest of the hike was pretty much an uphill battle, interspersed with one hydraulic feature after another. It started with relatively still water, but as we moved upwards there was an increasing number of waterfalls. Neat!

Naturally, I took three hundred photographs while the two of us were traipsing around the Glen, the best of which I have shared with all y'all here. If you ever find your way out here to visit us, or even just to check out the town for your own purposes, I can't recommend checking out the Glen Helen nature preserve enough. Because hey, it never hurts to get you some exercise outside!
